No? Stone tablets, perhaps? Okay, okay, I guess you\u2019re not <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> old and, thankfully, things evolve with time so it\u2019s more likely to be PowerPoint and projectors unless you\u2019re addicted to the toxic smell of marker pens on whiteboards, of course!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And what did your highschool English teacher use?\u00a0 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Headway\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">English File<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019? Or were they really modern and use \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cutting Edge<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And what about your in-company language trainer? Any time spent in the office is precious and normally reserved for meetings (not necessarily the best use of time some would argue!) and brainstorming \/ problem-solving\u00a0 sessions while language and IT training, for example, have moved to Teams and Zoom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9823 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/elephant-in-the-room-Banksy.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"482\" height=\"302\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/elephant-in-the-room-Banksy.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/elephant-in-the-room-Banksy-300x188.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/elephant-in-the-room-Banksy-768x481.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/elephant-in-the-room-Banksy-700x438.jpeg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 482px) 100vw, 482px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Banky\u2019s \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elephant in the room<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d depicting a major problem or controversial issue which is obviously present but is avoided as a subject for discussion &#8211; a very British phenomenon! <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And those textbooks? While there have been gallant attempts to digitalize them (#glorifedPDF), they don\u2019t work well and, frankly, they\u2019re still often boring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>New Objectives: What Does Your Team Really Need from Language Training?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before looking at the new objectives, we need to consider what else has changed. There are two other <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIG<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> parts of the equation that have changed in this new era: language level and objectives. <\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Language levels<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The modern reality is that the bar has been raised and people are sailing over the \u201cintermediate\u201d threshold these days. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9839 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"278\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-570x570.jpeg 570w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-500x500.jpeg 500w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-1000x1000.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/high-jump-700x700.jpeg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She makes it look easy!<\/span><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, there are still adults that are at \u201cbeginner\u201d level but they no longer represent \u2018the norm\u2019 (by the way, we do <\/span><b><i>NOT<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recommend the Watch and Talk Method for lower level students, instead we recommend \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/en\/blended-learning\/\">blending learning<\/a>\u2019 for lower level students). <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This [generally] means that language learners already have a decent grammar base (though many have been indoctrinated by \u2018the system\u2019 to believe they still need to perfect their grammar &#8211; a blog post for another day!) and can hold a conversation to a certain degree. Consequently, it\u2019s listening and speaking practice they need, not more grammar and fill-in-the-gaps!<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Human Connection<\/b><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The other big element is the need for moments of human connection in this new hybrid and remote world. Given the option, yes, physically meeting up together especially in a social environment (think Christmas parties, team bonding days, or <a href=\"https:\/\/watchandtalkmethod.com\/en\/blog-en\/como-motivar-y-mejorar-el-compromiso-laboral-en-equipos-remotos-e-hibridos\/\">private Dua Lipa concerts<\/a> etc) is ideal but it can be hard to achieve with any frequency and without breaking the bank! <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, to sum up a little, hybrid and remote companies now need language training that can be efficiently and effectively delivered to hybrid and remote teams and, at the same time, help bring colleagues closer together making stronger connections and relationships with an emphasis on listening and speaking. YouTube is a never-ending library of accents, topics, and debates that textbook publishers can only dream of! There is some great quality and incredibly interesting material and, with a bit of curation, skill and experience, videos can be turned into engaging and stimulating language lessons which can be flawlessly delivered over Zoom or Teams.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Why Are Videos the Secret to Engaging Workplace Training?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The videos themselves help <\/span><b>develop listening skills<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and students can get used to a variety of accents from around the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They provide a focal point for <\/span><b>deeper conversations and debates<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a.k.a. speaking practice) connecting to the students\u2019 own worlds and interests and can help boost their vocabulary.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colleagues can <\/span><b>get to know each other<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> far more as sessions are peppered with personal stories and anecdotes and opinions are shared. <\/span><\/li>\n<li>A (very big) added bonus is that, because the sessions are fun and engaging, <b>the drop out rate remains low<\/b> so companies get far <b>better value for money<\/b> and can reach the magic 75% attendance rate if it\u2019s a government funded course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Want Proof?
